The Kansas system is an outlier and one of the worst in the nation. Supreme Court Justices are selected by a committee of 9 persons, 5 of whom are lawyers chosen by the Kansas Bar Association. The Governor is then given a list of three nominees and asked to pick one. No Senate confirmation is required. This is definitely a "good old boy" system and has led to an insular and imperial court. Reform is clearly needed. The federal system of executive selection, with hearings, and then a confirmation vote by the Senate is infinitely preferable.
